Shane Filan was born to Peter and Mae Filan, and grew up in Sligo, a small town in the northwest of Ireland. The youngest of seven children, he has three brothers and three sisters. His parents owned a diner in Sligo named Carlton Cafe located on Castle Street and Shane used to work there as a waiter from a very early age.

Filan attended Summerhill College, a Catholic school, with Kian Egan and Mark Feehily. All three of them participated in a school production of Grease when they were about 12. The Hawkswell Theatre became a significant part of their careers, and as a big fan of Michael Jackson Filan taught himself how to moonwalk.

Before Westlife Egan and Feehily were with Filan in a band known as I.O.U. with other Sligonians Derrick Lacey, Graham Keighron and Michael "Miggles" Garrett. In 1997, he attended an audition for a new Irish boyband, where he was spotted byBoyzonemanager Louis Walsh, and Walsh approached him to join his new venture, Westlife The three Sligonans joined the band along with Nicky Byrne and Brian Mcfadden

Filan, along with Mark Feehily, is the main lead singer (first voice) in Westlife Their first album was released in November, 1999, titled Westlife With Westlife Filan has had 14 UK number ones and six number one albums in the UK, and sold 40 million records worldwide.

Filan has also co-written a few songs, along with the other band members, including: Fragile Heart Bop Bop Baby (Became a hit single and made it into #5 in U.K. singles charts), I Wanna Grow Old With You, Don't Say It's Too Late, Love Crime, How Does It Feel, Crying Girl, Reason For Living, Miss You When I'm Dreaming. He has also written songs for other artists, (together with his former bandmate McFadden): Listen Girl sung by John Ostberg, Let Me Be the One sung by Simon Casey (the song written by only Shane himself), Sei Parte Ormai Di Me sung by Il Divo.

Filan married his childhood sweetheart, Gillian Walsh (Kian's cousin) on Sunday December 28, 2003 at Ballintubber Abbey. A massive Manchester United fan, Filan and bandmate Nicky Byrne proudly wore their Man Utd scarves as they were half time guests at Old Trafford for the game between United and Bolton Wanderers.

All since yesterday!

Being sick is not fun at all....

No matter how good you think you are at taking care of yourself...

I hate being sick. I never liked taking medicine.

I can’t even swallow pills unless they are tiny….and I really mean tiny.

I’m feeling very tired even if I’ve slept for at least 10 hours yesterday.

I need to go to school later but I think I’d better stay at home..

hopefully, can get the permission from ma!

And someone just remind me " have u done ur homework' ?!

Oh Gosh!! I juz forgot everthing including the time!!!!

It was killing me!!! Argh!!

last friday,i went to the nearest super market to help my mum to buy two dozen of Anglia Shandy.

But when i reach the super market,i saw my favourite chocolate bars were on sale,

without a doubt i use the money that my mum gave me to bring those delicious cholate home.

The moment i reach home, i heard my mum shouting at me asking for her Anglia Shandy,

i was panic and speechless, she said:speak now, where's my god damn Shandy?

why you always use the money i gave you to buy something else?'

and i replied to her'you know why?

becasue we are who we are,my friends and i loves to do this to our mum'.

My mum ran to her bedroom and took a grenade out,

and she said:'give me my Shandy or i'll bomb you up with this'.

suddently she stop yelling at me for a moment and said:'allright,

if you stil remember my name i'll forgive you,so whats my name" ofcourse i know her name,iwas forgiven

i walk out from the house with my chocolate finding a nice spot to enjoy it and

i suddently receive a phone cal from my friend Jerry,

he said there are people waiting outside the line pray all day using the fireworks,

they're insane, and i replied him, 'the time has changed,

people nowdays love to praying using fireworks,but i don't get them though'

He asked me out to his place and sing some song,i followed him.

we had a great time singing together but suddently he said 'promise me you'

wont leave me, please promise this,and err..will you marry me'

i was stunned and run away from him and shout out loud to him'i want to forget you!

i never want to see you again' and he said' nevermind, we'll be allright'

on the way home i saw people praying using fireworks, i walked up and ask them'

are you guys playing god or what?' they all get angry and chase me like a G6,

damn i wanted to back to december so much,i'm 20pounds heavier right now that i cant even run faster,

the fireworks goes higher and higher and i whip my hair faster and faster while

im running away from them, i turn around and have a look,

suddently i saw someone familiar was chasing me too, hey! it's Jerry!

He's chasing me with those nuts and shouted' DOnt let me go!'

finally i reach my place and the stop chasing me.

I felt so relaxing lying on the couch and suddently i say to myself:

'am i suppose to eat my chocolate?'

i put my hand into my pocket and take it out,

it was melt,theres the worst part of a chocolate,

but..i was lucky enough that i didnt get bomb into ashes by mom,

smacked up by those insane people nor do hugged and kissed my the crazy Jerry,

hmm..that was nice,

i hopped into my bed and keep recalling my weird and funny things that i been throught the whole day.
